Retail Information- Apparel retailer GAP reveals new virtual dressing app

GAP, the famous global fashion brand which also operates Banana Republic and Old Navy stores, has gone one step ahead and unveiled the new augmented reality app “Dressing Room” at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas, USA recently. This app would help consumers to try out GAP clothing without even stepping in the retail outlet as it’ll enable the wearer know about the fit and measurements of the clothes he/she will be purchasing on their smartphones.

Liz Nuna, a GAP spokesperson said, “’The technology we created uses avatars to help the wearer understand how products will fit without stepping foot in a dressing room, and that’s really exciting.” The apparel retailer has joined forces with Avametric, an San Francisco-based app developer and Google for this app. “Google was an obvious collaborator for us on this project, as a long-time innovator in the augmented reality and mobile visualization space,” mentioned Liz.

Adding to that, Gil Krakowsky, VP Global Strategy and Business Development, GAP averred, “We have been working on the fit of our products to better match the way customers are shaped instead of just looking at “fit model” sizes. One of our top priorities is continuing to improve our technical knowledge around how fabric stretch, drape, and feel impact the sensation of fit. A lot of that customer information was inputted into the Avametric technology, backed by the Google Tango platform and ASUS hardware, to develop the DressingRoom by Gap pilot app we’re looking at today.”

At present, the app is in its pilot phase and will be available for the end-users by the end of this month.
